Planning Guide

A mountain experience shaped around you.

Leave the crowds behind and experience Japan's mountains on a private hike tailored to your interests, experience, fitness, and preferred pace. Every tour includes personal route planning, pre-trip guidance, and careful monitoring of mountain and weather conditions.

Day Hike Rates

What's Included

  • A private guided hike for your group
  • A route selected for your goals, experience, and fitness
  • Pre-trip consultation and itinerary planning
  • Packing and equipment guidance
  • Weather and trail-condition monitoring
  • Up to approximately eight hours of hiking, depending on the agreed route

Longer, Remote, or Logistically Complex Hikes

Some alpine, extended, remote, or unusually early-start routes require additional preparation and guiding time. An additional fee or custom quotation may apply. Any adjustment will always be explained and confirmed before you book.

Transportation & Additional Costs

Transportation Options

Private transportation: Pickup and transportation may be available at an additional cost. Your quotation will reflect the confirmed pickup location, destination, vehicle requirements, fuel, tolls, parking, and other applicable costs.

Meet at the trailhead: Guests may arrange their own transportation and meet the guide at the confirmed trailhead or meeting point.

**Transportation estimates are based on the planned itinerary and may change if the route or pickup arrangements are changed at the guest's request.

Other Possible Expenses

Depending on the selected hike, additional expenses may include:

  • Parking, public transportation, taxis, lifts, or ropeways
  • Trail, conservation, or facility fees
  • Equipment rental
  • Mountain-hut accommodation and meals
  • The guide's accommodation and meals when required for an overnight itinerary
  • An additional guide for larger groups or routes requiring a lower guide-to-guest ratio

**Published prices are base guiding fees. Your complete tour price will be confirmed in writing after the route, group size, meeting arrangements, and transportation requirements have been finalized.

Group Size & Route Suitability

Published private-tour rates are available for one to four guests. Please contact us for groups of five or more; transportation, route suitability, and whether an additional guide is required will be assessed before providing a custom quotation. The maximum group size may be reduced depending on the route, season, conditions, and participant experience.

Booking, Changes, and Cancellation Policy

Booking and Payment

Your tour date is confirmed once Peak Pursuits has approved the itinerary and received full payment. Standard day tours require full payment at booking. Overnight tours, large groups, and reservation-heavy custom itineraries may use a deposit and balance schedule instead.

Guest Cancellation

Weather and Safety Decisions

Mountain weather can change quickly. Peak Pursuits will monitor the forecast and trail conditions and may recommend an alternate route, a different date, or cancellation when the planned hike cannot be conducted safely.

**If Peak Pursuits cancels the tour because conditions are considered unsafe, guests may choose to reschedule, receive booking credit, or receive a full refund of amounts paid to Peak Pursuits.

**Guests are never required to accept a substantially different itinerary.

Third-party Expenses

Third-party bookings and expenses are subject to the cancellation terms of the applicable provider. Costs that have already been incurred or cannot be recovered may be deducted from the refund. Any known non-refundable expenses will be identified before payment whenever possible.

Necessary Equipment

Having the right equipment is crucial for a safe and enjoyable experience. This collection focuses on the base gear needed as a sample to kickstart your journey into the great outdoors. Additional gear may be required depending on the particular tour.

  • Footwear: Sturdy hiking boots or trekking shoes with good ankle support to navigate various terrains comfortably.

  • Apparel: Dress in moisture-wicking layers to stay dry and comfortable throughout your hike. Don't forget a lightweight, waterproof jacket and pants for unexpected weather changes.

  • Backpack: Choose a durable backpack with ample storage space to carry essentials like water, snacks, and first aid supplies.
    • Recommended: 25 - 35 Liter

  • Navigation Tools: Equip yourself with a map, compass, or GPS device to stay on track and navigate unfamiliar trails with confidence.

  • Hydration System: Stay hydrated on the trail with a hydration pack or water bottles. Remember to refill at water sources along the way.

  • Water and Nutrition:
    • Up to 2 Liters of water should be safe for most hikers. You should consider your personal needs and adjust appropriately.
    • Energy-boosting snacks like trail mix, granola bars, and fruits to keep you fueled during your hike.

  • First Aid Kit: Be prepared for minor injuries with a compact first aid kit containing bandages, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers, and blister treatments.

Additional Supplies

Depending on the specific tour and terrain, additional supplies may be required. These could include:

  • Trekking Poles: Provide stability and reduce strain on knees during steep ascents and descents.

  • Sun Protection: Shield yourself from harmful UV rays with sunglasses, sunscreen, and a wide-brimmed hat.

  • Insect Repellent: Ward off pesky bugs and insects with a reliable insect repellent spray or lotion.

  • Backpack Rain Cover: Always best to have stashed away in the case of sudden wet weather.

  • Extra Clothing: Anticipate changing weather conditions by packing extra clothing layers, including a warm hat and gloves.

Please note: Clients are responsible for providing their own hiking gear. Ensure that your equipment is in good condition and suitable for the terrain and duration of your hike. If you have any questions about gear requirements or recommendations, feel free to reach out to our team for assistance.
